Our Story

The Invisible Thread Theory

The "invisible thread or "red thread of destiny," is a concept derived from an ancient East Asian belief that people who are destined to meet are connected by an invisible red thread tied around their ankles or their fingers by the gods. This thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.

Our Beginnings

Our story begins, over 30 years ago in two towns just 54 miles apart – Wheeling, WV, and Fox Chapel, PA. That's where Vanessa and Mick were busy growing up, living their separate lives, completely unaware that fate had a plan in store for them.

Upon their high school graduation in 2011, their paths unfolded as both set forth to pursue their passions at rival state universities. Vanessa's artistic spirit led her to Ohio State, where she majored in fashion. Meanwhile, Mick's curiosity about the human mind and behavior led him to Penn State, where he studied psychology. Despite the physical distance between them, their timelines remained intertwined.

The Mountains Were Calling

As their college careers came to a close, the fall of 2017 ushered in a season of change. By a stroke of coincidence, they both decided to move to Colorado for a fresh start. Now, it would be easier for the plotline if the two would have merged paths then, but threads of fate were biding their time.

It wasn't until March 2019, a year after they had been working at the same company in the heart of downtown Denver, that Vanessa's desk relocation to a different floor changed the course of events.

Paths Crossing

Just a week after settling into her new workspace, Vanessa had already dubbed Mick as her new "office crush." As the days unfolded, their interactions became more frequent – chance meetings by the printer, shared moments in the break room, and an endearing mishap involving a coffee spill on a sweater that paved the way for the exchange of numbers. The rest was history.

In the years that followed, they built their lives together. They loved the electric atmosphere of Denver's music scene, making cherished memories while watching their favorite artists perform live. Countless date nights were dedicated to savoring unique culinary offerings and taking cooking classes together. They explored many new places together, from spontaneous road trips to Santa Fe and Moab, to traversing the landscapes of Iceland and the Amalfi coast. And let's not forget, they also welcomed a new adventure as loving feline parents to a tabby named Miso and a siamese named Sora.

The Proposal

Fast forward to a snowy February 15, 2023. Mick knocked on the door of Vanessa's home office, inviting her to take a break from work and join him for a lunchtime stroll at Denver's Cheesman Park.

The setting was serene, the whole landscape covered in a pristine layer of untouched snow, and it felt like they had the park all to themselves. Vanessa, enchanted by the winter wonderland, instinctively grabbed her phone, eager to capture the moment's beauty.

Little did she know, Mick had a surprise in store for her beneath the columns of the Grecian-inspired "Temple of the Sun" monument. As Vanessa turned around the camera around, her heart skipped a beat when she saw Mick down on one knee, ready to ask the most important question of their lives. In a perfect culmination of their journey, amidst the peaceful snowfall, he proposed.

We won't delve into the exact words exchanged, as Vanessa's joyous response likely included a few enthusiastic expletives. But the sentiment was crystal clear - a resounding "yes!" followed by a flurry of FaceTime calls to share the exciting news.

ARE CHILDREN INVITED TO THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION?

If your formal invitation is addressed as a family, your children are invited to the wedding. While we are excited to have your little ones at both the ceremony and reception, we kindly ask parents of younger children, especially those who might have difficulty remaining quiet during the ceremony, to consider taking a moment to explore the beautiful surroundings until the ceremony concludes.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR BEING AT A HIGHER ELEVATION?

Littleton and Denver sit at over 5,000 ft in elevation. We suggest guests prioritize hydration in the week leading up to their travel and during their stay to maximize their comfort while visiting. This means drinking water with electrolytes and limiting the number of alcoholic drinks consumed at higher elevations. Alcohol tolerance is lower at higher altitudes, so one drink typically feels like you've had three.
